Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority recorded 622 strikes nationwide between 2018 and 2022, with Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) alone logging 198 incidents in that window. Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) recorded close to 100 bird strikes in the 15 years to 2015, a smaller figure driven by lower traffic volume rather than a safer environment.

Britain and the United States, by contrast, operate at a different scale entirely. The UK Civil Aviation Authority confirmed 1,432 bird strikes in 2022 alone, while the US Federal Aviation Administration received reports of roughly 17,200 bird strikes that same year, part of an estimated $900 million in annual damage to American civil and military aircraft. What separates India from all four comparison countries is less the raw number of strikes and more the trajectory: India’s incident count is accelerating sharply even as enforcement of its own existing rules stays flat.

India’s reporting volume now exceeds that of many international peers, a sign that its data collection has matured even where its enforcement has not. Whether the DGCA, the AAI, and state governments can convert the next circular into measurable change on the ground will determine whether 2026 sets another record or finally begins to reverse a five-year climb.
