British Airways Reveals the Future of Lounges at Dubai and Miami Airports

On October 10, 2025, British Airways (BA), the flag carrier of the UK that had the iconic flight number BA001 for Concorde, has officially launched two flagship lounges at two of the busier airports in the world: Miami International Airport (MIA) and Dubai International Airport (DXB). [Note: DXB had recently claimed that it would be the world’s most accessible airport by 2035]

These two airports in the UAE claim to become the most accessible airport in the world by 2035. Will it?

These openings mark the beginning of a transformation of the British Airways’ global premium spaces, a commingling of the British heritage with local character of the places where these aerodromes are located and thereby reinforcing BA’s ongoing £7 billion transformation programme. In Miami and Dubai, the airline blends distinctive architectural cues, such as Art Deco motifs in Florida, and fretwork and arches in the UAE, thereby creating paces that feel both rooted in place and aligned with a unified brand identity.

The Design Concept Behind the BA’s New Premium Lounges

In partnership with global architecture and design firm Gensler, British Airways has conceived a cohesive lounge concept” that “will serve as the vision for future lounge developments“. The goal is to create welcoming, intuitive, and restorative environments for passengers — spaces to relax, dine, work, or socialize, said Calum Laming, British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer:

” These unique spaces have been created with our customers in mind and are the next step in our extensive lounge transformation plan. We’re proud to bring our brand to life in these spaces, having blended our British originality with each destination’s unique character. This approach has allowed us to make the most of brilliant talents from around the world. We’re grateful to all the teams, both within British Airways and our partners, who’ve helped make our vision a reality. “

BA has had significant recent investment in lounges recently, such as the ones in:

  • London Gatwick, which is an alternative to London Heathrow
  • Singapore,
  • Seattle
  • Lagos
  • Washington Dulles

In each lounge introduced in DXB and MIA, a striking full-service bar serves as a central focal point. Menus fuse local ingredients with British sensibilities. In order to commemorate the supersonic passenger jet that the British carrier operated, it has also introduced the exclusive Concorde Dining Rooms.

The lounge design also introduces “look-up moments”, which the carrier says adds “a touch of surprise to the experience”. Citing an example of this, the carrier makes the case for its lounge in Miami, where “guests are greeted by a floor mural that, when viewed through the mirrored ceiling, reveals the words ‘London Calling’ as a homage to the airline’s home.

Ashley Dowell, Design Director at Gensler, was buoyed with the partnership and said:

” We are honoured to have partnered with British Airways to carve the path for the global lounge concept being introduced around the world. Hospitality driven and inspired by the heritage of British Airways, combined with the rich vibrancy of each location, the lounges will reflect a global journey framed through a British lens. Welcoming, intuitive and bold, the new lounges offer a surprising retreat for travellers to relax, work and socialise in the midst of their travels. ”

British Airways’ Miami Lounge: The Largest Outside London

At Miami International Airport (MIA), British Airways’ 13,000 square feet lounge makes it “the largest lounge outside of London solely operated by British Airways“.  The lounge is located in Terminal E directly above its departure gate. Some of the Miami based contractors used for the construction of this lounge include:

  • TGA Consulting

The lounge is zoned into five functional areas: a central bar, main dining, focus pods, a sunken lounge with partitions for privacy, and a self-serve dining area. Let’s take a look at the features of the bar:

These two lounge openings at MIA and DXB reflect British Airways’ intent to recalibrate passenger expectations of airport hospitality. By anchoring each lounge in local culture, yet threading a unified design language, BA seeks to differentiate in a crowded premium travel market.

Further rollout of this concept is expected at Heathrow, Boston, and other major nodes in BA’s network. With each iteration, BA will test how far design, service, and location interplay can enhance brand perception at the airport level.
