Investigators pointed to a fault in the Bus Power Control Unit as a possible trigger. Because the AI171 crash also involved reports of early RAT deployment before the loss of thrust, the Flight AI117 incident has reinforced the FIP’s argument that Air India’s 787 fleet needs a broader electrical systems review, not just an examination limited to the accident aircraft.
