easyJet (U2) has inaugurated a brand-new scheduled service between Glasgow Airport (GLA), Scotland, and Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO), Rome, Italy, with the inaugural flight departing on 2 February 2026 as the carrier expands its European network from Scotland. This year-round route will operate up to four times weekly, offering direct access between western Scotland and central Italy for both leisure and business travellers.
easyJet’s Strategic Expansion from Glasgow Airport to Rome
easyJet’s Glasgow–Rome service represents a deliberate network enhancement that aligns with observed passenger demand trends between the UK and Southern Europe. In recent years, easyJet has prioritized routes that reinforce regional connectivity while diversifying its portfolio beyond traditional leisure markets.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet UK Country Manager, emphasized the importance of the Scottish market a year ago when it had announced four new routes from Glasgow for summer 2026, to popular beach and city break destinations:

- Pisa in Italy
- Lisbon in Portugal
- Malta
….the carrier said that “more than eight million people chose to fly with us to and from Scotland over the past year for our choice“.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said that in its 30th year, the carrier remained committed to making travel easy by continuing to offer greater choice and value across its network. He added that the new Glasgow–Rome Fiumicino service would provide customers with a convenient connection to one of Europe’s most historic cities, offering access to its landmarks, history, and cuisine.
Glasgow Airport’s management similarly described the route as a strategic addition to its Mediterranean network, supporting both inbound tourism to Scotland and outbound cultural travel to Italy. Chris Tibbett, Aero Director at AGS Airports, said the four new easyJet routes were positive news for the airport, Glasgow, and passengers, adding that expanding connectivity with major European cities remains a key priority.
He also highlighted Lisbon and Pisa as additions to the more than 40 destinations easyJet already serves from Glasgow, while noting the popularity of Sharm El Sheikh and Malta.

easyJet operates the new Glasgow–Rome service using its Airbus A319 family aircraft, which make up a growing share of the airline’s fleet due to improved fuel efficiency and reduced operating costs compared with earlier models.
