Hong Kong–Changsha Route Takes Off: Cathay Pacific Adds Daily Non-stop Service

On 4 November 2025, Cathay Pacific (CX) inaugurated daily nonstop passenger flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Changsha Huanghua International Airport (CSX), the capital of China’s Hunan Province. The new route is operated with the airline’s Airbus A321neo aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy cabins (note that Cathay Pacific offers one of then best economy experiences in the world), and offers customers seamless access via the Hong Kong hub to the Cathay network of over 100 destinations worldwide.

Cathay Pacific’s New HKG-CSX route details

Cathay Pacific’s HKG-CSX service operates under flight numbers CX968, CX920 (outbound) and CX927, CX943 (return), with departures in the morning (09:15 HKG – 10:50 CSX) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and in the evening (18:30 or 19:30 HKG – 20:05 or 21:05 CSX) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Strategic Implications of the Cathay’s HKG-CSX route

The addition of Changsha brings the Cathay Group’s Chinese Mainland destination count to 24 in 2025, making Changsha the fifth new Mainland destination announced by the airline this year alone.  According to Cathay’s booking portal, the flight time is approximately 1 h 30 m.

From a network perspective, this move strengthens Hong Kong’s role as an aviation hub and enhances the carrier’s footprint into Hunan Province—themselves emphasised by Cathay executives as part of their “deep roots in Hong Kong, being proudly part of China and connecting the world.”

For Changsha, the direct link to Hong Kong unlocks global onward connectivity via HKG and supports trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Hunan and international markets, said Hunan Airport Management Group Marketing Director Zhou Yun:

“Hong Kong is an important gateway between Hunan and the world. The direct flights between Changsha and Hong Kong not only make travelling between the two cities easier, but also foster economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Hunan and Hong Kong. … global travellers can conveniently transit via Hong Kong to reach Changsha. The new service also helps deepen cooperation between Hunan and Hong Kong, promote inbound tourism to Hunan and advance the opening-up of the province.”

The launch of daily nonstop flights between Hong Kong and Changsha by Cathay Pacific marks a meaningful enhancement of connectivity in the Chinese Mainland market.
