Bombardier (BBD-B.TO) delivered its first Global 8000 business jet in Asia on June 23, 2026. The customer is an undisclosed buyer based in Shanghai, China. Bombardier announced the delivery in a press release, describing it as an important step in expanding ultra-long-range business aviation across the region.
The Global 8000 is Bombardier’s flagship ultra-long-range jet, built for customers who need to fly long distances without stopping. The aircraft reaches a top speed of Mach 0.95 and a maximum range of 8,000 nautical miles, figures that make it the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde. This Shanghai delivery follows a similar milestone delivery to a Nigerian company in Africa just one week earlier.

Shanghai Customer Takes Delivery of First Global 8000 In Asia
Bombardier said the buyer’s identity remains undisclosed, though the company confirmed the customer is based in Shanghai. The aircraft is designed to match how business travellers in Asia typically operate, covering long distances on tight schedules, according to Bombardier’s official announcement.
Emmanuel Bornand, Bombardier’s Vice President of Sales, International, linked the delivery to broader demand trends in the region. He said the milestone “reflects the region’s continued appetite for aircraft that combine range, speed and comfort.” Bornand added that Asian customers place a strong focus on comfort, efficiency, and nonstop global connectivity.

Aircraft Enables Nonstop Flights to New York, Dublin, And Sydney
The Global 8000’s 8,000 nautical mile range allows it to connect Shanghai directly with major cities on three continents. Bombardier specifically named Shanghai to New York, Shanghai to Dublin, and Shanghai to Sydney as example nonstop city pairs the aircraft can now serve.
These routes were previously difficult to fly without a refueling stop on a four-zone business jet. The Global 8000 is currently the only aircraft in that cabin category to offer this level of range, based on Bombardier’s own product specifications.

Inside The Global 8000: Speed, Range, And Cabin Specifications
Bombardier built the Global 8000 around a combination of speed, range, and passenger comfort that the company says has no direct match among four-zone business jets. Key specifications of the aircraft include:
- Top speed of Mach 0.95, the fastest civilian speed since Concorde
- Maximum range of 8,000 nautical miles
- Cabin altitude of 2,691 feet while cruising at 41,000 feet, the lowest in production
- Four separate living spaces plus a dedicated crew rest area
- Leading-edge wing slats that allow access to 30 percent more airports than its closest rival
- Takeoff and landing performance comparable to a light jet
The low cabin altitude is designed to reduce the physical strain passengers typically feel at high altitude. Bombardier pairs this with its Pũr Air filtration system and Soleil circadian lighting, both intended to help travellers arrive less fatigued.

How The Global 8000 Reached Service Through 2025 Certifications
The Global 8000 completed a three-stage certification process before reaching customers in Asia. Transport Canada issued the aircraft’s type certification on November 5, 2025, and the jet entered commercial service the following month, according to Bombardier’s certification announcement.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration certified the aircraft on December 19, 2025, clearing it to operate within American airspace. Stephen McCullough, Bombardier’s Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development, said FAA certification “sets new performance standards in the industry.” The European Union Aviation Safety Agency completed the final certification in January 2026, allowing the Global 8000 to operate in Europe as well.

Bombardier Expands Singapore Service Centre To Support Asia Growth
Alongside the Shanghai delivery, Bombardier confirmed it is expanding its Singapore Service Centre at JTC’s Seletar Aerospace Park. The expansion adds a newly built facility of roughly 250,000 square feet near the existing site, according to a report from Investing News Network.
The larger service footprint is designed to support the growing number of Global 8000 aircraft now operating across Asia-Pacific. Bombardier framed the facility expansion as part of the same regional push behind the Shanghai delivery, rather than as a separate announcement.

Comparing This Delivery with Bombardier’s Recent Africa Milestone
The Shanghai delivery arrived roughly one week after Bombardier handed over Africa’s first Global 8000 to BUA Group, a Nigerian conglomerate with interests in cement, energy, and real estate. That aircraft will fly nonstop from Lagos to destinations including Los Angeles, Perth, and Tokyo.
BUA Group’s founder and chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, said the aircraft “offers the range, speed, comfort, and reliability required” for the company’s international operations. The Africa delivery was BUA Group’s third new Bombardier aircraft, following two earlier jets from the manufacturer.
Together, the two deliveries show Bombardier pursuing the same sales strategy on two different continents within the same month. Both customers value nonstop access to multiple continents from a single home base, whether that base is Shanghai or Lagos. Neither region had previously received a Global 8000 before June 2026.

Where The Global 8000 Sits Against Rival Gulfstream Jets
Bombardier’s closest competitor for the Global 8000 is the Gulfstream G700, already certified, with the larger Gulfstream G800 following behind it. The Global 8000 outperforms both on top speed, reaching Mach 0.95 versus the G700’s Mach 0.925.
The Global 8000 also improves on Bombardier’s own previous flagship, the Global 7500, offering 300 nautical miles of extra range and a cabin altitude nearly 1,800 feet lower. That combination of speed, range, and comfort is what Bombardier is now marketing directly to customers across Asia and Africa as it expands the aircraft’s global footprint.
